2026 Word of The Year
There's something about the new year that encourages reflection and intention. As 2025 comes to an end, it’s time to reflect on the past year (good riddance) and look forward to what lies ahead. One of my favorite new year’s traditions is choosing my word of the year . After much thought about 2026, it’s significance and my intentions, I’ve come up with revolution as my word of the year.
2025 felt chaotic. Out of control. It was one of those years that life just got in the way. As much as I tried to refocus, it felt as if a new obstacle was always waiting around the corner. I see 2026 not only as a fresh start, but well, a revolution.
2026 is also the United States’ Semiquincentennial. And while there are plenty of people who prefer to bitch and moan about what things look like in the US right now, it’s the country in which I was born, and I happen to be grateful for all that it’s provided me. As a resident of Philadelphia, I’m looking forward to celebrating this milestone, and being a part of the revoloution that moves this nation forward.
I'm at a place in my life that feels right for a major change. I’ve worked hard. I’m proud of all I’ve created for myself, and I’m ready to for the next chapter. And while I believe in the power of small habits and gradual growth, I've realized that some things in my life don't need tweaking—they need overturning. Get ready to be amazed and offended. It’s a goddam revolution.
So what does this actually look like? For me, revolution means:
Giving myself permission to completely reimagine areas of my life that aren't working. Sometimes the revolution isn't working harder at the same thing—it's choosing an entirely different path.
Being willing to let go of everything I’ve outgrown- people, places, identities. Revolution requires that we're willing to become someone different than who we were.
Taking action where I've been apprehensive, speaking up where I've been silent, and doing the hard things that make a difference.
Revolution is not a gentle word. It doesn't promise ease or comfort. But it promises change, transformation, and the kind of energy that comes from actively shaping your life rather than passively experiencing it.
This year, I'm not just making resolutions. I'm staging a revolution—one choice, one day, one decision at a time.
Here's to 2026: The year of turning everything around.
