The Zen Zinger

Does the state of the world have you frazzled? Finding that the news makes you sick to your stomach? Need something to take the edge off but realize that alcohol doesn’t do anything but remind you that you shouldn’t have texted your ex? You need a nonalcoholic cocktail that will take the edge off without taking away your edge.

In comes the Zen Zinger, a little cocktail I tossed together that’s full of flavors I love (lemon & ginger FTW), a favorite NA aperitif, gut loving booch, and a touch of sweet adaptogens.

A little bit about the ingredients:

Abstinence Lemon Non-Alcoholic Aperitif is a lemon flavored bittersweet aperitif, and it’s one of my favorites for mixing into cocktails.

Ashwagandha is an adaptogenic herb used in Ayurvedic medicine, and is renowned for its ability to help the body manage stress by regulating cortisol levels, while also supporting improved sleep quality, enhanced cognitive function, and reduced anxiety.

Lemon Juice, as well all know is full of Vitamin C, and may help with digestion and overall immunity.

Ginger is known for its potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, making it effective for easing digestive discomfort, reducing nausea, and alleviating muscle pain and soreness.

Kombucha, through it’s fermentation process, produces beneficial bacteria and yeast that may support gut health and digestion, contributing to a balanced microbiome.

All of these add up to a refreshing nonalcoholic cocktail that tastes great, and won’t give you hangxiety.

Give the Zen Zinger a try, power down your devices, and have a relaxing evening. The world will be crazy in the morning. I promise.

You can make an Ashwagandha Simple Syrup by using the recipe below:

  • Ingredients:

  • 3 tablespoons of dried ashwagandha root

  • 1 quart (32 oz) of water

  • 1–2 cups of honey or sugar

  • Instructions:

  • Combine the ashwagandha root and water in a pot. Bring to a simmer and let it cook until the liquid is reduced by half.

  • Strain out the root.

  • Return the liquid to the pot and add honey or sugar. Warm over low heat, ensuring the temperature does not exceed 110°F to preserve the nutritional properties, until the sugar/honey is fully dissolved.
