Hibiscus Ginger Iced Tea

Hibiscus has been used medicinally for centuries. One of the most well known health benefits of hibiscus is its ability to lower blood pressure. In fact, some studies even suggest that hibiscus tea can be just as effective as some blood pressure medications. Hibiscus has also been shown to be beneficial for weight loss. One study found that drinking hibiscus tea over the course of several weeks led to a significant decrease in body weight & body fat.

In addition to these benefits, hibiscus tea is also a good source of antioxidants. Antioxidants can protect the body from damage caused by6y harmful free radicals. By doing so, antioxidants can help prevent chronic diseases such as cancer, heart disease, and Alzheimer’s disease.

The recipe below is simple to make, and I added in a little ginger for a kick of flavor (and even more health benefits). It’s sweet, fruity, and sugar free. Serve it stright up over ice, or add it in to your favorite mocktail!

Hibiscus Ginger Iced Tea

Makes 8 servings.

Ingredients:

1 C Dried Hibiscus Flowers (Food Grade)

1” Piece Ginger, sliced thin

8 C Water

Directions:

Add the hibiscus to the mason jar or pitcher. Pour the cool water over the dried flowers and screw on the lid. Shake to combine. (If using a pitcher, stir to combine.)

Refrigerate overnight.

Place a fine mesh sieve over a pitcher and pour the tea through the sieve to capture the hibiscus flowers & ginger. Discard the flowers & ginger.

Serve cold. Sweeten if desired.
